Im gonna take a leap to my Favorite Hymn of all time, the very Hymn this Blog is named after... "It Is Well"

If you havent listened to this song. Do it!

Its such a powerful song on its own. But with the story it just sky rockets in power.

And inspires me So greatly!

So "It is Well"

Written in 1873 By: Horatio Spafford

When the great fire of Chicago burned through the Windy city, Horatio (an investor in real eastate) Lost his entire fortune. All his savings were gone, all his life earning burned up in an instant. Soon there after, his son at only age four, died from scarlet fever. In 1873 Horatio Decided to take his wife and 4 daughters to Europe. When an urgent matter held Horatio back he sent his Wife and daughters ahead, promising to join them soon.

On November 22, 1873 the boat carrying Horatio's family collided with another boat.

In the chaos Horatio's 4 daughters drowned. But Mrs. Spafford survived and made it safely to Wales. Where she wired to husband: "Saved alone"

Horatio booked the next boat over, and while they were sailing the captain pulled him aside, Letting him know they were sailing over where the other boat had gone down. And where his daughters had died.

Spafford returned to his cabin and wrote "It is well" On a napkin.

Now HOW is it even imaginable, that those words would come to mind.

That a song such as this, is whats on your mind at this time!

Talk about powerful!

When you've lost it all.

Everything, your money. Everything youve ever worked for.

Your only son. All four of your daughters.

How is it possible! To be singing "IT IS WELL!"

God is powerful

this song is his creation.

And it blesses me every time I hear it!

I hope you can appreciate it as much as I can.

Written in 1757 By an Author Unkown

However others will give credit to Charles Wesley

Theres not much background information on this Hymn.

And because of that I cant tell you about any amazing inspirational stories about this Hymn coming to be.

However there is a story thats pretty cool:

"In the days of the Amer­i­can Re­vo­lu­tion a con­gre­ga­tion of pa­tri­o­tic col­o­nists were wor­ship­ing in their church on Long Is­land when the ser­vice was in­ter­rupt­ed by the ar­riv­al of a com­pa­ny of Hess­ian troops. The cap­tain stalked up the aisle and com­mand­ed the people to sing “God Save the King.” The or­gan­ist start­ed the tune that we call “Amer­i­ca”; but the peo­ple, true to the cause of the Amer­i­can col­o­nies and to their God, sang this hymn"

And two cool lines are "Thee great one in three." Again referencing the trinity.

And also "O'er all victorious" Pretty easily figured out.

And So It Begins..

I start by stating my mission. In an attempts to find some amazing old honest heart felt worship songs. Im going to take a journey through a HYMNAL! Whoooo! Ive also bought some books with background stories and information on when some of the Hymns were written and by whom and what inspired them... Im actually quite excited. I wanna try to do at least one a day. SO let do this!

First up: "Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty"

The words were written in 1826 by a Reginald Heber while serving as Vicar of Hodnet, Shropshire, England. Explained further you notice that in every verse he will list attributes in three's. This is to bring praise to all the heads of the trinity. Saying Holy, Holy, Holy! Is saying such of each the Son, the Father and The Holy Spirit.

Something this brings to mind is how far worship songs have come. We now sing praise for all God has done for us. Which by all means he deserves... But Im wondering now how often I just worship God because of how purely Holy he is. Just for being, he deserves praise. And every aspect of the Trinity does. Kind of a missed mark there.
